General Lip Filler Frequently asked questions:

  • What are lip fillers? Lip fillers are injectable substances that are used to add volume, shape, and definition to the lips. They are a type of dermal filler, and the most common type used today is hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers.

  • How do lip fillers work? HA fillers are injected into the lips using a fine needle or cannula.  The HA attracts water, which plumps up the lips and adds volume.  The injector will carefully place the filler to achieve your desired look, whether it's adding overall volume, defining the lip shape, or correcting asymmetry.

  • What are the benefits of lip fillers? Increased volume, enhanced shape and definition, improved proportions, & natural looking results.

  • Am I a good candidate for lip fillers? A good candidate for lip filler is someone who:

  • Desires fuller lips: This is the most common reason people seek lip fillers. They may have naturally thin lips or have noticed their lips thinning with age.

  • Wants improved lip shape or symmetry: Fillers can help define the lip borders, create a more pronounced Cupid's bow, and correct asymmetry between the top and bottom lips.

  • Seeks to reduce fine lines around the mouth: Fillers can soften the appearance of wrinkles and lines around the mouth (perioral lines).

  • Has realistic expectations: Lip fillers can enhance your lips but won't drastically alter your overall facial features. A good candidate understands the limitations of the procedure.

  • Is in good overall health: Certain medical conditions may make lip fillers less suitable. It's important to discuss your medical history with your injector.

  • Is not pregnant or breastfeeding: It's generally recommended to avoid lip fillers during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited research on safety in these populations.

  • Is not allergic to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine (if used): Hyaluronic acid is the most common type of filler, and lidocaine is often used as a numbing agent.

  • Is generally over the age of 21: While some jurisdictions allow for lip fillers with parental consent for those under 21, it's generally considered an adult procedure.

  • Understands the risks and benefits: A good candidate is aware of the potential side effects and complications associated with lip fillers.

  • Is committed to proper aftercare: Following aftercare instructions is crucial for optimal healing and results.

  • What types of lip fillers are available? Revanesse + Lips

  • How long do lip fillers last? Most hyaluronic acid lip fillers last between 6 to 12 months. Some can even last up to 18 months, depending on the specific product used.

  • How much do lip fillers cost? $650+tax for one syringe, which is a typical treatment.

  • Is lip filler painful? Lip filler injections can cause some discomfort, but it's generally manageable.

  • What is the procedure like?

  • How long does the procedure take? From start to finish, it typically takes 20 - 30 minutes.

  • When will I see the results from my lip filler?

- You'll see some results from your lip filler immediately after the procedure. However, it's important to understand that these initial results aren't the final results. Here's a typical timeline:

- Immediately After: You'll notice increased volume in your lips right away. However, swelling, bruising, and sometimes redness are also present. So, while you'll see a change, it's not the final, refined result.

- Within the First Few Days: Swelling will likely peak within the first 24-48 hours and then start to subside. Bruising, if any, will also become more apparent during this time. Your lips might feel a bit tender or sore.

- Within a Week: Most of the initial swelling should have gone down significantly. Bruising will start to fade. You'll get a much better sense of what your lips will look like.

- Within Two Weeks: The majority of swelling and bruising should be resolved. At this point, you'll see the most accurate representation of your lip filler results. Any minor residual swelling usually disappears by this point.

- Final Results: While you see a good result within two weeks, it can sometimes take up to four weeks for allswelling to completely resolve and for the filler to fully settle. This is when you can truly appreciate the final outcome.

  • Are lip fillers safe? Lip fillers, when performed by a qualified and experienced professional, are generally considered safe. However, like any cosmetic procedure, there are potential risks and side effects to be aware of. The most common type of lip filler uses hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body. This makes allergic reactions rare.

  • What are the common side effects of lip fillers?

Common side effects of lip fillers include:

  • Swelling: This is very common and usually peaks within the first 24-48 hours, gradually subsiding over a few days.

  • Bruising: Bruising is also common and can vary in severity. It usually fades within a week or two.

  • Redness: Some redness at the injection sites is normal and typically resolves quickly.

  • Tenderness or Pain: You may experience some tenderness, soreness, or a slight throbbing sensation in the treated area for a few days.

  • Itching: Itching at the injection sites can occur but is usually mild.

  • Numbness or Tingling: Temporary numbness or tingling can happen but is less common.

  • Small bumps or lumps: These can sometimes occur, especially if the filler isn't evenly distributed. They often resolve on their own, or your injector can address them.

  • Dryness or cracking of the lips: This can occur temporarily.

  • Can lip fillers be reversed? Yes, lip fillers can be reversed! This is one of the great advantages of using hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. A trained professional will inject hyaluronidase into the areas where the filler was placed. This will start to break down the HA, and your lips will gradually return to their previous shape.
